Protect Our Wetlands was started by 15 students from public high schools in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles: Canoga Park High School, Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies and Van Nuys High School. Some of us were juniors in 2020-2021 and will be returning as seniors; the others are going on to four-year universities.
We admire what Greta Thunberg has started, and we got together because we believe that older generations have failed us when it comes to Global Heating and the Climate Emergency, and we don’t want to put up with it any longer. We focus on wetlands because we see them as our most threatened ecosystems, with a unifying challenge: protecting our water, fish and wildlife, and preventing species extinctions. We believe in community action to block further development of our open spaces in the San Fernando Valley like the Sepulveda Basin, we want to open up the fenced-off spaces we have now, and we plan to hold legislators accountable.
We built this website you are viewing as well as new social media feeds: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and we maintain a Linked In site as well. We hope you will join us.
